mix needs.

Selbri Mixing is a Max for Live device. It sits on any track in your Live set, measures what every device is really doing, explains it in plain musical terms and suggests changes with EQ Eight, Compressor and the rest of Live’s own devices. You keep the final say.

Why does the bass disappear when the kick hits?

01The problem

Youknowwhatyouwant,butnotwheretostartorwhattotouchfirst.

That isn’t a talent problem. Too many choices at once is where a lot of tracks stall. Selbri Mixing suggests where to start and shows you why, with the numbers behind it.

02How it works

From “what’s wrong?” to a better mix.

01

Ask in your own words

Drop Selbri Mixing on a track and ask, in any language: “why does the bass disappear when the kick hits?” It reads the track’s role, its devices, its group and your genre before it says a word.

It listens after every device

Hit play. It measures the signal after each device in the chain, so you see what every EQ and compressor is actually doing to your sound, whatever its settings say.

It explains, then suggests

The answer comes in musical terms, with the numbers to back it. Every suggestion is a change to a device you already have, like “Compressor › Threshold −18 dB → −15 dB”, with the reason next to it.

Compressor›Threshold
−18.0 dB→−15.0 dB
Less compression, so the bass keeps its attack.
Compressor›Attack
2.00 ms→10.0 ms
A slower attack lets the first hit through before the compressor reacts.
Only devices you already have. Hear each one A/B before you apply it.
04

Try it. Keep what helps.

Hear any change A/B and apply the ones you like, or have it build a tool from Live’s own devices. It listens to two bars without the tool, two with it and two without it again, and leaves it on only if the track measured better, volume-matched. You can still open it, change it or delete it.

05The whole mix

It hears the track and the song around it.

Reads your groups and master

It won’t stack compression your drum group already applies, and when two tracks share a problem, it suggests fixing it once, on the group.

Guides your grouping

Not grouped yet? It tells you which tracks belong together, then proposes glue for the new group.

Proposes a fader balance

From the master, one card proposes a level for every measured part against the kick, for your genre. Apply it or undo it. No fader ends above 0 dB.

06How it behaves

Nothing happens behind your back.

Every move explained

Each suggestion names the device, the parameter, the value and the reason. If it doesn’t have enough to go on, it says so instead of guessing.

Fair comparisons

Louder always sounds better, so every with-and-without test is volume-matched. What you hear is the change itself.

Your session stays yours

Nothing but Live’s own devices, in racks you can open. Edit one and Selbri Mixing stops touching it until you hand it back.

Nothing unconfirmed

It only writes what Live confirms it can set, reads every value back, and removes any tool that fails its test.

07The family

Mixing comes first. More is coming.

09FAQ

Questions before you try it.

Selbri Mixing needs Ableton Live 12.2 or later with Max for Live (Max 9). The Selbri tools that build racks need Live 12.3 or later. It works on audio, MIDI, group, return and master tracks.

Only what you ask it to. On a channel it tries at most two tools at a time, and from the master it proposes a level for every fader. On Pro it can go through the whole set, track by track. You can hear every change, and one click undoes the whole run. The taste and the last call stay with you.

No. Everything Selbri Mixing adds is built from Live’s own devices (EQ Eight, Compressor, Glue Compressor, Multiband Dynamics, Saturator, Drum Buss, Utility, Limiter, Reverb, and Delay), so your project opens on any Live 12 setup.

Selbri Mixing has targets for 24 styles, from minimal, house and techno to hip-hop, pop, rock, jazz and ambient, and recognises dozens of genre names in English and Spanish. Four were tuned by ear in Live: minimal, house, tech house, and commercial. The other 20 start from research (published measurements and engineers’ settings) and haven’t been tuned in Live yet.

It answers in the language you write in. The interface comes in English, Spanish, French, German, Portuguese, Italian, Japanese and Chinese.

Free: 20 questions a month on 1 computer. Pro: US$24 a month or US$239 a year, for 200 questions, 2 computers and the Conductor. Studio, coming soon: US$49 a month or US$489 a year, for 500 questions, 3 computers and suggestions steered toward a reference track. Every new account starts with a 14-day Pro trial, no card. Billing isn’t open yet, so nothing is charged during early access.
